I'm always open to some variety among the programs my kids watch. Watching the same movie over and over can become tiresome to say the least. With that said, I'd like to start a "family movie" recommendations thread. Please share below:

1. Any movies/shows you recently watched with your kids, and...
2. Rate them based on how much your kids enjoyed them.

One movie I highly recommend is actually a series - the "Open Season" series. Definitely one of those movies that both parents and kids can enjoy. Open Season 3 just came out on DVD, so even if you have seen the first 2, it's likely that you haven't seen number 3 (unless your kids are like my kids, who had a countdown for its release date). Anyways, if your kids haven't seen Open Season 1, 2 or 3, I recommend introducing it to family movie night. 9/10

Do you mean only feature films or also TV shows on DVD?

Boys or Girls? What age?

This is what both our son and daughter like to watch:

Most Pixar films: Up, Toy Story 1,2,3; Incredibles, Cars

Disney films: Tangled (AWESOME movie) being the most recent--but everything from "Beauty and the Beast" and "Lion King" and "Little Mermaid" to "Snow White" and "Cinderella"

DS likes "How to Train a Dragon" but DD doesn't

Shows: Backyardigans...#1 without a doubt....also "Little Einsteins", "Max and Ruby", "Wonder Pets", "Thomas", "Wiggles" (when DD was younger, like 2), and of course "Dora"

Just because it says "Disney" does not mean it's child friendly.

Avoid, at all costs, Old Yeller.

Ponyo, Howl's Moving Castle, KiKi's delivery Service (all by Hayao Miyazaki) were big favorites around here. My DD loved them and so did DH and I. Also liked Matilda and Coraline.

WHAT??? That is a terrific movie. I don't know why you would avoid it at all costs. I know its sad at the end but life is not all about happy endings.

^^^

Re "Wizard of Oz"--now that is one heck of a scary movie. I refuse to watch it and I am old enough that I don't want to say how old I am!

Also there are lots of older TV shows on DVD that might be good, depending on your kids' ages and genders:

"Little House on the Prairie"
"Touched by an Angel"
"The Waltons"
"Anne of Avonlea" (that was a series, wasn't it?)

I'm sure there are others....
