That's what I'm afraid of. And he is sort of the dumb one of the two. Yes, the same one who keeps going in the closet after being trapped in there for 5 hours, getting paw stuck between dishwasher and cabinet making us take the whole dishwasher out, falling off the banister from the second floor, etc. Him popping the screen out....only a matter of time.

Zimbo, that sounds fun! One more week of school here. I'm still waiting for pool weather.

Lots of fever in my house today, and not the good kind!

Anyway, good excuse to post one of my fave Muppet clips. Rita Moreno is da bomb!

Default Grandparents/in-laws

For those of you with parents living in other states, how often do you see them, how often do they visit you, and how far ahead of time are visits planned?

When my kids were growing up the grandparents were all within a 30 mile radius. There was no escape, lol.

Went to the post office this morning and picked up a rock from the road which cracked my windshield. Rats. This happens a lot here. Luckily the repair is standard and "free" on my policy. But rats.

rkb - I have no family in this state. DH's hometown is where we lived prior to here so he has family there plus we had friends etc. When the kids were little we'd go there twice a year for a week at a time. They would never come here. DH's father refused to travel, his mom came out once or twice over the years (DD's First Holy Communion, HS grad etc). It is expected that we do the traveling.

My family is more able to travel (both physically and financially) but they are all over and they tend to come here 2-3X...I'd say I usually have about a month's notice and they stay about 3 days, give or take.

this is something that really aggravates me and I'm never sure if I'm over reacting. We made plans for my parents to visit in July months ago, and finalized the dates about 2 months ago. I signed the kids up for summer camps and things 2 months ago too. Now my in-laws call and want to visit, but the week they picked is the same week we'll be with my parents. I have given them a 6-week window that would work for us, but so far haven't heard back from them. I always end up feeling like the bad guy because we end up not being available; but that's only because IMO they wait too long to ask.

It was the same thing last year. By the time they told us their plans, DH couldn't take any more time off work because we'd already planned our summer.

Maybe we need to be more pro-active and tell them when we are making our plans.

I would say do this in the future - but do NOT feel bad or like you are being the bad guy. It's not like you can sit around waiting for them to make plans before you plan your summer! Most activities fill up fast and if you wait you'd miss out.

Maybe they will think twice the next time they want to wait until the last minute to plan a visit. I wouldn't sweat over it one bit. If they want to come bad enough, they'll make it work when you are available.

I would some how make sure they realized your parents finalized their plans months ago. (A hint-hint to your in-laws!).

thanks. I have drafted an e-mail that explains that things fill up so we made these plans 2 months ago. I am going to sit on it for a while and make sure it is ok to send.

Good luck rkb....I agree with jkcoop - lesson learned and next year, just email them saying that you're making up your summer calendar and if they are planning on visiting, you'd like to get it scheduled.

Came home from work early for something DS had going on only to find that "oh yeah" it wasn't going to be today anymore. Grrrr.

Went to the store and think we'll have (chicken) Italian sausage, peppers and pasta for dinner tonight. And garlic bread.

DH apparently hadn't updated his credit card for the tollway transponder. In months. Guess who just got the bill....

Sigh....wonder if I can get in for a massage?
