I have a to-do list a mile long, yet here I am on CD again. I'm hopeless!
Me too. The A/C guy is coming for a check-up tomorrow and I need to move some boxes so he can get up into the attic. I already went outside and hosed off the unit so he wouldn't say "You need to hose off the dust" and I put a new filter in so he wouldn't say "Your filter is dirty".
I hate having strange people come into my house. I don't like people I don't know seeing my stuff. Hate it. Anyone else?

I am always a little paranoid when any sort of repair person comes over. I'm generally trusting, but how do you really know?
Has anyone ever made the huge mistake of impulsively buying a magazine from a door to door salesman?
I did. 9 months ago, and haven't seen a single magazine,
We have a no soliciting sign too which does nothing to deter them. The worst are the "back to work" programs, which in themselves are a great idea, but really the logic of sending ex-cons door-to-door to sell magazines is particularly flawed.
When I have strangers working in the house I make a big song and dance about how aggressive the dog is. "Let me lock the dog up", "don't touch the dog, she bites", etc. The dog would lick anyone to death, but they don't need to know that.
Exactly - it's one thing to have no kids (for whatever reason) and have an opinion..it's the ones who feel the need to preface their opinion with how much they can't stand kids and call people breeders and spawn etc...they're the annoying ones.
Yep - you hit the nail on the head. It seems these posts are more and more lately and they draw some of these people like moths to a flame. Do some of these people constantly check the parenting forum for the latest "I don't like kids" post?
I seriously think they should have a forum of their own - although they probably wouldn't post anything because I think there is some thrill in posting that stuff in the parenting forum.
I put a no soliciting sign in the window a couple months ago. I used to think it was rude, but no more. If I need something I will go out and buy it. If I ever buy something from someone who knocks on my door, it is a mistake. I finally learned that.

exactly. My best friend is child free by choice, but she doesn't go around to parenting groups telling them all about it.

I love the ones that say, "well, I'm not selling anything" then go on to sell something.
My husband will remind them that it's illegal to come to our door with the sign and always asks to see their permit. He has a good way of scaring them off.
We had one incidence where cops were called. I told the guy at the door (unfortunately no sign at the time) I was not interested. He then asked for a bottle of water. I said I didn't have any. Shut the door. He then starts screaming in the street that I wouldn't give him water because he was black. Seriously.
Long story short, cops were called - he only got lucky because we had no sign. The cop said he would have hauled him in. He did get escorted out of the neighborhood because he had no permit. The cop said the biggest problem they have is the vans that drop these guys off. The guy had no i.d. - didn't even live in the state. I'm not even sure the knew what state he was actually in!
