I think the house thing is annoying me because my husband and I have been saving money for awhile and still won't be ready to buy a house until next spring. I have to resist the urge to knock some sense into my friend (not literally) but for the time being I keep the conversation on stuff like "what kind of house are you interested in?" and "what areas are you looking at?"
I don't blame you feeling frustrated. Good for you though, you just have to keep going.

If you ask me, anyone spending lavishly with the current state of affairs is playing with fire. We are in the middle of a total master bathroom renovation and decided mid-way to scale back a bit. You can never be too careful.

I actually did it twice, but my parents didn't give me any money towards it. Most kids I know who did it financed themselves. We also ended up doing bizarre things on our travels to earn money. Most lucrative job in England to earn money was polishing silver.
Holy crap Hopes! Your husband is either the bravest man in the world, or certifiably nuts. I can't ever imagine squashing a spider with my bare foot, and DH? Forget about it. He has a bug phobia. Actually, probably more of a nature phobia. I'm the one who gets called to remove the odd snake or lizard that finds it's way into our house.
We had a very yuk baby spider incident. When DS was 2-ish we moved him out of his crib and some friends gave us a kid bed they had stored in their garage. The first night he was in it I went into his room last things and saw that he was fast asleep and completely covered by baby spiders. I think I may have said some bad words and stuff. It wasn't good.
I identified it. It's a wolf spider. FEAR NOT! This does not happen with all types of spiders!
Apparently wolf spiders are a unique spider that keep their eggs and babies with them.
(Other spiders lay egg sacs elsewhere and do not carry their infants on them.)
From wiki:

Wolf spiders are unique in the way that they carry their eggs. The egg sac, a round silken globe, is attached to the spinnerets at the end of the abdomen, allowing the spider to carry her unborn young with her. The abdomen must be held in a raised position to keep the egg case from dragging on the ground, however despite this handicap they are still capable of hunting. Another aspect unique to wolf spiders is their method of infant care. Immediately after the spiderlings emerge from their protective silken case, they clamber up their mother's legs and crowd onto her abdomen.
Anyone who isn't afraid of seeing spider pictures, google wolf spider so you can see the type of spider that has eggs and babies with it.
Wolf spiders are already large spiders. This one looked exceptionally large because it was covered in babies.
Sorry, Finster. I always take a bath I get the Heebie McFreakin Jeebies. Now that I mention it, I'm going to take one now!
This did freak me out a bit. I wonder if laundry ever gets done at my house again!
Well, if I were you, I'd use it as a good excuse to hire some staff.
