I hope the rest of you have exciting plans for today! I get the joy of having my roots scraped at 8am.
On a brighter note, the dogs seem to enjoy testing out the new subfloor. They're so silly.
Don't expect pictures in the near future. Hubby is going back to work next week. This could take all winter. But it's exciting that progress is being made again!
Not a problem - not offended or anything....I did want to get him something....more than just the concert tix that were a week ago...something to unwrap..that might be something kinda neat...I just don't know what in the world that would be. When DD turned 18 she knew specifically what she wanted (a small tattoo that she'd been planning for quite awhile). We just gave her the cash for that.....she was already away at school. DS is still home, has a job, has gadgets...and nothing he specifically wants that is not expensive or just not what we're doing now...hard to explain...sorry...I do appreciate the thoughts though...can definitely be used for future reference...
I may be late to the party but I got both my boys really nice watches for their 18th and had them engraved on the back. "All the way to the moon" because they both loved Guess How Much I Love You when they were small and I would call them my little nutbrown hares.
Wow Zim, Frances is stunningly beautiful. Those pics are kind of heavy, though, for someone her age. She's had an interesting life with Courtney Love, that's for sure.
LM - that's a sweet story.
How are you doing Ewag? Not overdoing it I hope. (finger waving dude, please Zim).
Hopes - I think you are very patient regarding the potentially endless house remodel project by MrHopes. I don't know that I wouldn't be threatening some harm to his cajones if MrFR didn't get it sorted. When we first moved to Philly, we saw several houses for rent where you could pay a nominal rent if you were a contractor in return for remodeling the house. I'm really glad none of them panned out, in hindsight it would have been a terrible strain on us and I don't think we would have survived it.
I left in 2009. So I am way past PBS. I am upset that EastEnders is played all over the world except the US. What episode are you on and I can tell you exactly where I left off? PBS here in Texas does not have it for some reason.
AFAIK, it's a really expensive show for PBS to keep on. They used to have it in LA, then they switched the timeslot from 7pm Friday to 5am Sun morning (and yes, I used to get up and watch it - although MissFR was a baby at the time, so it wasn't unusual to be up then) and then they took it off, saying they couldn't justify the expense with such a small following (rabid as they may be).
I'm thinking now that LA was a long way behind Philly, these episodes may be more current.
So.. Angie's Den has recently been set on fire by Billy and Sam Mitchell. Billy is now doing dodgy dealings for Andy. Sharon and Dennis had just started up their relationship and are going on holiday when Vicky spots them snogging in the back of the taxi. Vicky is devastated and gets a bottle of vodka and is around the square generally losing it, climbing up to the train tracks where she is rescued by Ash, who she then kisses. Ronnie had his 21st birthday and is waiting for the kidney transplant from Tarig, who has just told the family that he is their half brother, which they are not happy about. Their Dad is still in India.
There's something going on between Paul and Natalie, and Gennine has just discovered that Paul has feelings for her (Natalie), but she has told him it's just guilt for what they did to Barry (who Gennine has recently pushed of a cliff, after they go married in Scotland).
Oooh, I wish you had it in Texas. I have nobody to say "Did you see what happened on EastEnders last night" to.

She is very beautiful, haunting eyes! I hope her emotional health is a bit sturdier than her parents?

We have been working on our house for 6 years now, all big projects. The problem is MrZim travels a lot, so we work on it when we can. I always maintain that if a relationship can withstand doing major hands-on renovation projects together, it can pretty much withstand anything. The breaking point for us nearly came when dry-walling the 1700 sq ft basement. Every dry wall sheet that I carried down the stairs nearly ended up broken over MrZim's head!
I hope she's emotionally healthy too, but with those 2 for parents, it is doubtful, sadly.
Our house seems to be falling apart around us. After the chandelier fell from the ceiling a couple weeks ago, the blinds in the living room broke. They won't move at all now. The satellite receiver in the master bedroom quit working, the refrigerator doors won't seal... Our wood floors are in pretty bad shape, and the upstairs carpet has needed replacing since we moved in, but those 2 things aren't happening for a while.

Have fun Hopes! I get to finish that week after next. The first half turned out to be not as bad as anticipated. I now just want to get it done and finished.

DH's dad built houses. So growing up, DH's house was always in a state of not quite finished. Kind of like the cobbler with no shoes....
We still have to put in the wall in the basement to create DS's room. I'm ashamed to admit it's sheets right now. We just haven't had the time, inclination nor extra funds. I do remember how horrible it was dealing with dry wall Zim - when we originally finished the basement. That stuff was heavy and like you guys - it was just DH and me doing all the work.
When he framed the basement, he did in with creating a bedroom down there. So putting up the two walls and the door to make the bedroom will be relatively easy. Or so you would think. Nothing ever ends up easy or on budget though. And we also have to move light switches, etc. He has a ton of travel coming up so I doubt he'll be wanting to do this on the weekends. Oh well. Maybe we'll get it done before graduation in the spring!

Yeah, I don't know what it is about drywalling. It's not hard to do, but somehow it's just the most taxing. Basements always end up much more expensive than you budget for. By the time you do plumbing, heating/cooling, and electric you have boken the bank. The only room we have'nt finished in ours yet is the bar.
I have been a real slacker recently, and my to-do list is embarassingly long. Now that it's a bit cooler, I really need to get outside and refinish the deck. And I have lots and lots and lots of painting waiting for me. Every wall in the house has 2 smudge lines, one at kid-hand-height, and one at dog height.
Our master bath has been in progress for 2 years. It is looking really nice, and I'm looking forward to using it...in the future!
I'd really love to have a finished basement, but I don't think it's going to happen in this house. I don't think we'll stay here forever, and it wouldn't be worth the investment. We've been decorating it in our minds for years, but it will have to wait a bit longer.
