Let me tell you how I handle stuff like that.....if you complain about something, or try to give advice to me, you can obviously do it better than me, so from now on, it's all yours. Obviously they aren't there much longer, but at bath time, let her do it, and take a few minutes to yourself, take a walk or something. Think of it as a mental health break!
Dude.... um, NO.

I agree with your proposed handling of the situation. Honestly, sometimes you just let em get on with it and take a break. Otherwise it can be worse than arguing with some posters on this board. And I hate to say it, but usually they really do mean well. Don't forget we'll likely all be MIL's someday (right Mattie ) and they'll probably have no patience with us either.

In further news, MissFR is now complaining her ear hurts, so I'm thinking we have an ear infection, but of course the doctor is now closed, so I'm not sure if we'll end up making an emergency room visit this evening. Oh balls, poor little thing. She's fallen asleep on the couch, so hopefully the Tylenol I slipped into her juice is working and she'll feel better.

Yup, I'm afraid so. And she's a nasty beyotch....and she doesn't drive at all....and DH travels a lot. But she loves her son and the grandkids. I have a lot of "planning meetings" when she's here.

I like your method. The only reason I didn't let her do it is it was already past bed time and I wanted to do it quickly. She'd have let them soak. I just wanted to wash them down and get them out. She wanted to make sure I "at least washed their hair".

Haha! re: the bolded

Poor Miss FR - she really got hit hard, didn't she? Fingers crossed she's able to get some rest and can wait until tomorrow for the ped, poor kid.

St. Zim. I would have to have a lot of "leaving town for a week" meetings!! You must have a LOT of good karma stored up after those visits.

OMG Zim! Where is she coming from? My friend's daughter is living with a man, to whom she hopes to marry. He brings his parents over from South Africa twice a year, for 3 months each. She complains so much while they are here, that it just "might" have something to do with her not getting the proposal she is waiting for. Meanwhile, the boy feels very strongly that he needs to welcome his parents. It's a tough situation. In your case, I might sign up for a year in the Peace Corp.

Hey! I could be a wonderful MIL, given half a chance. I actually got an unsolicited call from DS today. Nothing noteworthy, but I have taken a hands off approach, so it was nice to see he made the effort.

Ouch on the ears FR. My kids had constant infections. Do they even give antibiotics for them anymore? Hope you have a pain free night.

But of course! I just didn't want you to think we think all MIL's are evil. Given everything, I thought it might be a bit of a touchy spot. Hence the winky face.

Thanks, much appreciated. She's only had one, a couple of years ago, and they did give her antibiotics.

I hope that's not it, because this child is exceptionally stubborn when it comes to anything medical. It took me half an hour to convince her to let me take her underarm temp, and much wailing was put forth - I don't know how I'll get her to take medicine.

Let's just say I don't think the kid will ever forget this crazy Zim woman going all lachrymose on his azz! He asked to come back a few days later, so I'm not sure that I scared him quite enough. He was VERY well behaved though .
::standing ovation::

"Apology accepted" then you open up your book and let the instructor take it from there. Do not let this kid off the hook. But be Lady Grand - Dignity! - when you accept his apology. This kid has to learn the lesson that he was rude as h--- and it's not acceptable. Ever.

Then there's a second part: Sometime this year LMSN is not going to know the answer to something. Or he's going to be called on and not have anything to say. That is when you, Lady Grand Hopes, raise your lovely hand and answers. Or makes a point that is so full of wisdom the class is stunned. At that point you turn - slowly - to LMSN and give him "The Look". The all-knowing Look that says "I know you are an idiot and you know you are an idiot. But I'm not going to embarass you by pointing that out." Just The Look.

In my house this is called "Erasing the Checkmark".

Hope this makes sense as I am typing like mad. Remember NO APOLOGY. Just I accept your apology. Got any music with you? Put on some Butt Kicking I Am Woman music, ramp yourself up, and go get them!!!

Brava! (But I have to spread the love before I can rep you anymore.)
