I think a lot of children rely on peers for outside activity. They're probably more sociable and extroverted. Which makes it tough for the parents who naturally want to see their child get some exercise ~ both physically and mentally. Imagination is so good for the brain. And, as I mentioned earlier, it was a challenge with my daughter. She was a social butterfly and there weren't always other children around. She preferred idle entertainment inside over playing outside alone, and it was often a bone of contention between us.
But kids really do need the exercise. I suppose they get some in school, and maybe it's enough. But since the advent of video games and pc's, I still think they're overall too inactive.
My 14yo son is in the back yard, with 2 other friends going down a slip & slide. I require 1 hour off (Xbox, computer, TV) for every 2 hours he's on it. So that often takes him outside...
