Oh its very traumatic for the kids, as there father is very cruel. But jury has to give the custody to someone who can take care of kids till they become mature.

Apparantly the mom has been on some news shows and was on the "Today" show this a.m.
Kudzu, when I signed the petition, all I got as far as emails back was one confirming that I had signed it. I don't know about your mailing address, but to me (no offense intended), that is a risk I would take to help this poor woman.
If you have FB, maybe you could spread the word--the more people who know about this, the better.

I saw her on Today this morning. Sounds like she doesn't even have attorney yet. I sure do hope somebody steps up to help this woman out. I would be more than willing to contribute to her legal fund. I'm in Chapel Hill and she is in neighboring Durham. This is so sad. She is so young. I can't believe a female judge - or any judge- would yank the kids away from a mother who is trying so hard to do what is best for her children. None of us knows how long we will live. It's not like she is on her death bed yet.
One solution would be for the dad to get employment in Durham.

I am doing the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer this weekend in Boston. Rest assured that each and every person I talk with over those 2 days is going to hear this story. The walk also goes to Charlotte, NC and I will make sure the organizers hear about it.
Disgusting.

I don't understand why you would petition the NC Governor, The exec branch has no authroity in this area (Other then calling in children services). The story was also very one sided, The 'best' intrest of the children are what the Judge should be looking at. The children should have been assigned as GAL to represent there intrests in court. She (the mother) can appeal it to a higher court.

It's called "pressure". I happen to know the power of a group of women fighting the establishment. We can move mountains.
(And here's hoping more than a few men join in this fight. Every time I read the title of this thread my BP goes up.)

My understanding of it is that the main reason the judge gave in her decision is that the mother has cancer and the judge cannot determine how long the mother will live...
...so she has assigned the children to the father despite the evidence that the father is abusive and despite that the children have barely seen the father in a number of years. (And even despite that the children do not want to live with their father).
As PP stated, none of us knows how long we have to live.
As far as the governor, I am not sure...isn't there some kind of power in the executive branch?
