Very good test. Now I have to wonder about the factors you may not have thought of. How were you holding the toast before you dropped it? Most people are holding one side of it and it kind of fumbles out of their hand. Maybe it is the fumble that starts the rotation. Were you holding it perfectly flat?
hmm... Now I may have to do an experiment this weekend and see if different holds will affect the rotation. Also, does jelly create more spin than butter?
Nummy, I think you have hit on the core issue - the Fumble Factor! We all know how easy it is to fumble things by accident, but it is really hard to fumble on purpose! I admit my Fumbles were Failures. And I didn't try with jelly (or jam we we call it) - all I had was Rose's Lime Marmalade, imported from Britain, which is way too precious to use for experimental purposes.
I look forward to your test results Nummy!
... and Dew... I am pointedly ignoring your hints.
As long as there there is some good exercise involved, I'm thinking we need to do this experiment with some homemade bread (seems to me we can hit coop up for some), and real butter. I'll volunteer. It may take an entire loaf. Or two. Especially if we want to test whether fresh, warm bread falls any differently. Or sourdough bread.
My mother's heart will be full this weekend. Four whole days of being with my family (grown daughter, son - lives with us - college) and my whole extended family!
We are all headed from Florida to Newport Beach, CA for a destination wedding!! Can't wait!! Heard it gets down to around 60 at night. Sounds nice.
We'll be on a yacht with that lovely Pacific all around us. DewDropIn - I think this is your former neck of the woods, right?

lol! I was just wondering - banana bread. Seems heavy. Does it thunk?
It's good to know that while we are entertaining ourselves by dropping bread on the floor and discussing it, some people are having fabulous vacations.... Enjoy!

Just thing how much IMMUNITY you and your family will build up!
Bette... have a wonderful time yachting with your family!
Have a terrific trip Bette, and enjoy the family time!
Kobber, that was very funny. I do hope nobody was around to wonder if you had lost your marbles.
I vote we let Kobber's results stand, and just eat all that bread and butter.
