I think we need a silly name sticky over in Pregnancy.
My sister works for a school district and encounters some jaw-droppers. Mostly made-up or weirdly spelled, but all nutso. She also has a friend whose name has three Ss in a row--Melisssa? Something like that.
I tutored a boy named Travis Frisbee. I thought his name sounded so cool, like the hero of a children's book.
I actually had the fantasy that that exact scenario played out in our house yesterday...
DH came home for lunch and since I was having issues with my back, he said he'd mow the lawn when he came home in the evening. It needs it badly and it's supposed to rain all day today.
Well, 7pm rolled around and DS and I stopped waiting for him to come home. We ate and went down in the basement to watch t.v.
At one point, I walked upstairs and smelled the distinct, lovely smell of freshly mowed grass! I was so happy, opened the door to the garage - and it was closed. DH wasn't home happily mowing the lawn. Bummer.
Awe! I'd send hubby your way. He likes yardwork. It's his thing.
If he didn't, I'd handle that the same way I handled hubby not helping out with the house early in our marriage. I simply stopped cleaning. When he complained, I said, "Looks fine to me. If you think it needs to be cleaned, clean it." (Because that's what he said whenever I complained that he didn't help with the household chores!) Worked perfectly! Hubby has been happily helping with household chores ever since!
As for lawns, I've never mowed grass in my life. If hubby started bugging me to start pushing a lawn mower, I'd hire someone to mow it. I would have been just as happy if he hired a maid back when I went on strike housecleaning. If I couldn't hire someone, I'd let it grow until he finally got the message that he had to start cutting it, even if it got waist high and we received fines. Division of labor in marriage is THAT important to me.
These name posts are cracking me up! The worst one I've ever heard was a woman my husband had to talk to for work - I think she was in MI somewhere - are you ready? Omunique. Pronounced "I'm unique." I thought it had to be him pulling my leg or an urban legend or something, but then he showed me an email from her. That's her name. I actually named one of my longstanding Sims characters after her.
one of my pet peeves is parents who spell names wrong. I suppose you could say there is no wrong way to spell a name, but I know someone with a kid named Blase (pronounced blaze, as in fire). The problem is she put an accent over the e with means it should be pronounced blasé [ˈblɑːzeɪ]
adj
1. indifferent to something because of familiarity or surfeit
2. lacking enthusiasm; bored
[from French, past participle of blaser to cloy]

Twice in one day! I am developing forehead wrinkles.
OK, is that look for me, or for the mom who named her kid Blase?
That mom! She can't just stick accents on letters. They're not decoration.
I know someone whose daughter's name is Blaze. It sounds like a stripper name to me. I can't picture Vice President of Product Development, Blaze "Bennet." Judge Blaze Bennet. Blaze Bennet, Esq. Vote for Blaze Bennet for mayor!
MissFR has taken all of the "beans" out her giant bean bag whale to make "snow".
(The whale belonged to MrFR when he was a kid. Oops.)
