No I would not let her get that! Maybe at 16. But I will tell her to trim and shave or naire it as she gets older. I had a friend when I was about 13 ish and her mother didn't tell her she needs to trim her bush before you put a suit on!! She walked out to the pool and it looked like a man with a bikini on his beard.

Only if she participates in swimming, dance, gymnastics, etc. requiring uniforms/costumes where this would become an issue. And then it should be done in the privacy of the home, supervised by Mom.

Mom? Waxing? There is no way that I would have been able to rip the "strip". I know, I am a terrible baby when it comes to my kids. Much better for me to hold hands...and someone else to rip the strip.

It is funny this is about girls...when my son was in competition swimming, he got waxed all over. The hair drags...and in high school swimming they don't wear those fancy suits that they do for the Olympics. His coach said waxing was better than shaving...who would have thought I would go with my teen son to have him waxed?! His brothers teased him, called him a "Metro-Sexual"...

I think if you are going to wax, you should go the professional route. There actually is a method to it. Just make sure you go to a place that uses a new stick every time. When I went for my brazillian there where so many sticks and pieces of linen. She actually ran out of room on the table for the strips and had to start putting them next to my on the table.

Hairy armpits cause B.O. so that's a good reason to shave.
Armpit Odor ............................

What this reminds me of is all the kaffufle about body hair on females - In western culture some fools percieve hair on a womans under arms as being unsightly and disgusting - as if the under arm was some mis-placed secondary vagina or something..My wife and many other do not shave their pits - It does not matter to me...it looks normal - but then again I was brought up in an eastern european family...and there was no woman hate as there is in western society.

Armpit hair may hold onto the odor but it certainly is not the cause of the odor. Besides, most people bathe and wear deodorant so if someone doesn't want to shave their hairy armpits, who cares.

I have tried twice to wax my own legs. Terrible results. I probably wasn't forceful enough. How could I do that to my daughter? Heck no. I probably couldn't be there while she (as an older teen or young woman, NOT 11!) had it done either. I get too agitated when my children are in pain.

Yeah but can you imagine putting deodorant on over the hair....
Mine clumps up sometimes and that's WITHOUT hair, imagine a girl walking around with little white clumps of deodorant in her armpit hair...

Where's the vomiting emoticon?

FTR: I think we should live and let live. If someone wants to be hairless, let them, if someone wants to be hairy, let them and we also shouldn't FORCE people either way. If an 11 year old girl is tired of looking like tarzan when she goes to the pool she should be allowed to shave legs, armpits etc and make sure it doesn't look like she wearing hair as bathing suit more than she is the actual swim suit.
