A regular daycare, estimate $400-$600 a week. Home daycare, $350-$500 a week. A place I would not take my child, $250 or less.

You may find staying home cheaper, once you add in costs for food, clothes, transportation.

You might want to also ask on the Chicago forum, to get more specific costs and recommendations.

Wow, I guess we don't have it too bad around here. Most of the at-home daycare providers are around $3.50-4.00 per hour. An actual daycare is somewhere around $175-200/week. Total cost depends on if they charge you for only hours the child is there or not.

I'm in Columbus Ohio and I take my lil man to a home day care. He's only 2 1/2 but it's always been $125/week, $25/day. She provides meals, drinks and snacks. I provide diapers and wipes.

ahh, daycare...the new family size decider of the modern era. We spend $310/week for our child. The daycare facility we use is the only one within a reasonable distance in the area...and we were considered "lucky" to get accepted ..essentially, i'm working to pay someone to watch my kid. Currently working hard to convince my mom to retire so i can pay her instead to watch her grand child.

I paid $200 per week for my first in a 4 star (out of 5) center. I paid $150 per week for my second in an unlicensed home daycare. At the 5 star daycares, it was about $300 per week (which we didn't use for infant care).

The cost goes down as the kid gets older - down to $230 per week for a 4 year old. Which is also what I'm paying now for my 2 year old to go to a developmental daycare.

Just to show how much it varies...while that may be the going rates where you are, here infants care is around $200-250/week for quality centers and $150-175/week for quality home care. Vast difference between here and where you are.
