I have a few questions about breastfeeding if any of you could please help me out.

ok I want to stop breastfeeding when my DD turns 6 months. Reason being that I work and im tired of spending every second of my breaks pumping. I need to eat and use the bathroom sometimes! lol but if I do that then im in pain from not pumping.

How do I wean my DD onto similac? Also how do I stop my milk from coming in. Is it going to hurt terribly?

Another question (tmi) I feel really sill asking this buttttt ever since breastfeeding my breasts arent as "attractive" as they once were. Will they go back to normal or am I stuck with these socks with tennis balls in them?

Try not to worry - it's not going to hurt

The body is an amazing thing - the less you pump or nurse, the less milk will be produced.

This is a very gradual process. Just start by eliminating one pumping or feeding a day, then 2, then 3. Give yourself a couple of weeks. Just alternate breast milk with Similac until you can do more and more formula and less and less breast milk.

Good luck!

Just get her to take a bottle for one of her feedings. Then 2 bottles and then 3. Do it slowly and you won't hurt a bit.

Hi Ohio! I am a breastfeeding mom so I completely understand where you are coming from regarding it. I breastfeed for two years and trust me after year one I was desperate for him to wean but he did not. I have a son who thought Mommy was a free for all at Hooters and finally when he went to preschool it was done, over with and DS has been boob sober for exactly 8 months.

Now saying that, I would recommend that you continue breastfeeding but if you want to supplement formula I strongly suggest you seeing your pediatrician and discussing this with him/her. You can always call your lactation consultant as well and see how this will affect your little one. To go from breast to bottle can be a dilemma and your little one may not take to it. DS when he was first born was on both bottle and breast for illness reasons but favored breast milk more. By one month old it was a done deal and breast was it.

If it does work in your favor that she takes to bottle, be prepared for engorgement and the pain.

BTW your boobs will never ever ever look the same. Mr. X misses those days when I was small and pert. Now I can whack him with a boob when he takes long naps on the couch and threaten to shoot him when I lactate if he acts like a donkey.

Kellymom is an excellent source for all things related to breastfeeding. Here is a section on weaning.kellymom.com :: Weaning

Comfort measures and weaning
kellymom.com :: Comfort measures for mom during weaning

Here is a another section about partial weaning if you have any interest in giving up pumping and switching to formula while you are at work and nursing when you are at home. kellymom.com :: Partial Weaning & Combination Feeding

Your breasts get stretched out from pregnancy. Sorry to say but ime, they will never be the same.

Best of luck.

They may never look the same again, but they'll be much healthier and less likely to ever get breast cancer
