I have no idea what little kids like these days, and no idea what stores even sell for little kids any more.
These gifts need to be transportable by bus (we don't have a car) and will ultimately travel to their destination on an airplane in a suitcase. So swing sets and treehouses are definitely out.
I am completely clueless and have never met these children. The only thing I really know is that the little girl likes to be a princess.
I'm stumped, stranded, and lost here. Help me out please.
2 year old: dress up clothes, a princess puzzle (check out "Melissa & Doug Princess Dress-Up Mix 'n Match Peg Puzzle", my girl who is 2 loved that), story books uch as Princess Sparkle by Nicola Baxter.
8 year old: Nerf gun (may be bulky); Star Wars Lego; gift card for ITunes, assuming he has a IPod; Remote controlled car? Not sure about travelling with that.
Since you are traveling and space is tight i would go with books for both kids. some sort of car or early science book for the boy and animal picture book or story book for girls.
Generally, small items beloved by 2year olds are puzzles, small stuffed toys to play pretend with, maybe hand puppets, crayons (the big thick kind) or art supplies, and books. For an 8 year old, I might go with Legos (they make some relatively easily transportable kinds you could stick in luggage) or books.
Kids at that age are still easy enough to buy for - for the boy any kind of remote car, helicopter, boat. Or nerf gun, big water gun, and the little girl would still be into baby dolls, and dress up clothes, anything sparkly.
those are super easy ages-
2 year old- doll, dress up clothes, book, Fancy nancy series is cute-
8 yearold- remote car, football, board game or fun game-
you can look on Amazon and get ideas- Wal Mart Target Kmart - best places to shop
I would always go with a learning toy or book. Something to spark imagination. Puzzles are good and legos are identified with the age range. I could easily buy all my presents in a good bookstore.
Little girls are so easy to buy for, just go to the shop and think "pretty" or "princess" and you'll find something she'll adore.
Boys...not so much. Ask the parents what he's into, or get him a gift card.
I had a son and a daughter, and one of the best money I ever spent was on good old fashioned Lego. My daughter would probably die at me telling you this but she played with hers right up until she was about 13 or 14.
