I do hope they had lots of fun.

I just had visions of my mom letting my dad wander off into the desert.
I worry when mine go off to the middle of nowhere too.

Time for a family pow-wow HM. Talk to mom about the BENEFITS of keeping in touch. (Sometimes you have to think one step ahead. )

Your mother managed to raise you without you wandering off into the desert.

Hey, remember the days without cell phones? Maybe you don't remember those days since you think 60s is old.

I think it's awesome they are traveling and having fun with their lives.

People get older faster when they don't venture out of their small little worlds.

I gotta say . . . at first glance, it may seem the adult children over-reacted, but from my perspective, I think it is very touching that two adult children care this much about their mom and dad.

My husband has health issues and my son and his fiancee like to hear from me every day. It means the world to me that they care. I have never bugged my son (calling, texting, chat) - never had to initiate the contacts - but out of respect and kindness he has always stayed in touch w/ me, even while in college. It might not be but a little chat message on AIM saying - Hope your day is going well! xoxoxo . . . These days, we have an agreement - as long as we see one another post on FB, we know all is well. It doesn't matter what the post might be about . . . as long as we see a post, we know the other is alive and well, lol.

So when I look at things from that angle . . . it is very kind that OP wants to make sure the parents are okay. I think when there has been a life and death scare (as with my hubby and with OP's dad), it really does affect a lot of adult children - and they want to be there in case they are needed.
