Good idea, although there are a trillion studies out already regarding syncope, salt intake, and hydration. But if it means people will stop harping on about it with regard to HPV vaccines, then it would be worth it. Maybe Gatorade will fund it.

NCCC National Cervical Cancer Coalition

"Women in developing countries account for about 85 percent of both the yearly cases of cervical cancer (estimated at 473,000 cases worldwide) and the yearly deaths from cervical cancer (estimated at 253,500 deaths worldwide). In the majority of developing countries, cervical cancer remains the number-one cause of cancer-related deaths among women."

http://hpv2010.org/main/images/stori...ld_Feb2010.pdf

This article gives 273,505 annual worldwide cervical cancer deaths. It lists 223,000 cancers of the mouth and throat, with 15 to 20% of those HPV related = 33,450 to 44,600.

Anal, penile, vaginal, and vulvar cancers are less common. The article does not give the number of deaths for those.

Vaginal cancer, US:

http://www.cancer.org/acs/groups/cid...003146-pdf.pdf

Predicted for 2012: "About 840 women will die of this cancer."

Vulvar cancer, US:

Vulvar Cancer Home Page - National Cancer Institute

" Deaths: 950"

Penile cancer, US:

Penile Cancer Home Page - National Cancer Institute

"Deaths: 310"

Anus cancer, US:

Anal Cancer Home Page - National Cancer Institute

"Deaths: 780"

While not all of these cancers are HPV related, the majority appear to be.

Maybe Merck will fund it!

But then you could not post here --- you would have a "conflict of interest."

You know, I may take this idea to our office. We could keep some Gatorade in the fridge, give the teen girls a small cupful when they arrive for their appointments. Actually, all the teens might benefit. Guys faint from shots, too!

Ok ok, I'll go get my family the shot!
I admit it, I'm really afraid and stupid, strange how you knew that all along and now after all that work you have convinced me to go and shoot up the fam.
You've convinced me I'm an idiot and I'm afraid. I shouldn't listen to hear say or advice that isn't proven by an official study. I won't! Awesome! Well, here ya go. Have a great day. Thank you doctor, you're awesome!

Maybe some cookies, too! I would think maybe even give them more than a small cup, though that would increase the expense.

If you do it, please let us know what happens.

And if it works, I do think it would be worth sharing with Merck.

Poppy, you were afraid. That is OK. If you think you were afraid now, wait until you hand them the car keys for that first solo drive!

We always are afraid for our kids --- even when they are thirty somethings --- and we are still telling them to drive safely. Trust me on that.

But you are not stupid or an idiot, and we never thought you were.

If we have helped alleviate your fear, we are happy.

Perhaps the forum at its best.

Actually, when I worked for a health dept and we went into the schools to give immunizations to 6th graders, we did give them juice and cookies. I had kind of forgotten about that.
