Because at the other end of the spectrum are the kids with Hummer limos, $700 dresses, professional makeup, fancy restaurants, after-prom parties ...

No grad parties hosted by the school here. Most grads are celebrating with their families that day as far as I know. Or attending family parties of their friends....

I have twins who are both going to the prom this year (different proms). I have some (hopefully all ) the costs for my son - prom ticket $90 X 2 ($180), tux rental $187, wrist corsage $50. I bought him a new pair of shoes (needed it badly), but he will wear them to other events other than the prom, so won't include that in the cost. Dunno if he'll get a haircut . They are among 10 other couples going to another girls home and his date will be bringing something to eat (everybody brings something to share for dinner, so he doesn't have to pay for going out to dinner), and he will be paying $30 x 2 for he and his date to get a ride on the party bus (which will take the 10 couples to the prom). Cost so far approx $477.

My daughter will begin shopping this weekend for her dress and a cover-up (her prom is on a boat). LOL, I'll update again when she's finished shopping.

I think prom tix here were $35 each. Dinner also not included...but I wouldn't have expected it for that. $90 EACH seems awfully pricey.

Lucked out this year my daughter is actually making her dress out of candy wrappers! Paid $10.00 for a consignment dress she is covering with the wrappers, $40.00 shoes, $14.00 jewelry she is paying the $70.00 for two tickets she is paying for her boyfriend he is paying for dinner. They are not renting a limo and she is making her own corsage and his lapel flower. She has been collecting wrappers for a while and has had lots of friend helping her. It will be unique!

OK just got the prom update today.

$60 per person bux includes dinner. Borrowing a car, grandma is making the dress (fabric etc $80ish), makeup done at MAC in the mall (probably buy mascara and lip gloss for $40). So $180 so far.

She is doing her own nails, and already owns shoes.
