Any subset of human beings will have some of those characteristics.

So what?

Besides, maybe his HR department should have some workshops for working with people who aren't so great at math and reading comprehension.

Because their parents talk about these horrible things and worry about these horrible things and get into arguments about these things..... and they in turn worry about it and get depression and anxiety

how else to explain a 6-year-old committing suicide, as happened in Seattle in January 2010?

I can tell you, IKB, that my HR department is currently having seminars on how to deal with the 16-21 year olds currently showing up to interviews with Mommy and Daddy.

How would I know? It's your thread, perhaps you'd be so kind as to post a few links, so I know what it is you're referring to.

I presume you mean this incident:
Samantha Kuberski, Six Years Old, Youngest Suicide Victim in Oregon State History - Seattle News - The Daily Weekly

Nowhere does it say she suffered from depression and/or anxiety... in fact the article says she was a happy kid who did well in school.

She was sent to her room after getting in a fight with her mother. So she may well have been cheesed off and/or anxious in the moment. However, quoting from the article:

"Samantha reportedly crawled into an unused crib that had no mattress or box spring, tied a cordurouy belt around her neck and onto the crib's top railing and hung herself. ... Her parents and siblings were later interviewed by police, who ruled out any foul play and said they found no signs that the young girl had ever been abused.
Now the only thing left to parse is what to call Samantha's tragic death. While the medical examiner has ruled it a suicide, detectives insist on calling it an accident, saying that a child that small could have no idea of the consequences of her actions, an argument backed up by adolescent psychiatrists like Dr. Kirk Wolfe.
"Most kids this age are not aware of what death actually is," he told the Yamhill Valley News-Register. "Not until they get to be 8, 9 and 10 do they understand death is final and you don't come back."

This story does not prove the OP's theory.

Clearly a person (no matter if they are 6, 16 or 66) who says she's going to kill herself, which Kuberski did say, as the article above reported but yours conveniently does not, has some degree of depression and anxiety. I am not trying to prove a theory. Or even that my textbook is correct. However some people on this forum are clearly in denial about the psychology of childhood in this day and age.

Yes, 5 year olds can be depressed, 6 year olds can say they want to kill themselves and actually do it, and yes, people are over medicating and over indulging their kids. Many times these things do NOT happen. But many times they DO.

Apparently this generation is depressed, over-medicated and self-entitled because these kids are growing up amid or post-9/11 & terrorism, the Great Recession, prescription drug abuse and "parents who are rebelling against their own repressed childhoods by giving their kids whatever they want, including iPhones at age 8"; this is from my textbook.

Do you all agree?
Entitlement is very subjective, and a term curmudgeons love to throw around.

Understanding some children may suffer from emotional, psychological, or even psychiatric conditions is a sign that we have evolved, and no longer tell kids to "shut up", "quit crying", "man up", "stand up for yourself", etc. Just because children in previous generations were not treated for emotional issues does not correlate to them not experiencing them.

As for the historical time our children are experiencing, many generations grew up in times of strife and stress, and each generation of children responded differently. Do you think using prescription drugs is much different to self-medication?

Well if you know all of this for a fact, and you are incapable or unable to engage in an intelligent debate on the topic, why did you post here?

Excellent analysis, and great question (your first post).

As for your 2nd post, I think my OP answers your question.

It would be nice to hear from parents who are experiencing or not experiencing these characteristics of Generation Z,
instead of flat-out denials in the form of "LA LA LA I'M NOT LISTENING THIS CANNOT HAPPEN IN MY WORLD."
