OK-I'll bite. The article does state:

"The cost of raising a child from birth to age 17 has surged 25 percent over the last 10 years, due largely to the rising cost of groceries and medical care......"

How is that wasteful?

Did you notice that all of those children in the pictures are working
and saving the family on labor costs.
American children are lazy and useless when it comes to work
and are more or less a cost to the family till they leave home
on there own ... maybe.

Heck yes. I have them outside right now sanding the deck. I told them if they are good they can take turns with the knee pads.
