Default 8 mos old trouble sleeping

My 8 mos old is having trouble sleeping lately. I think by now they should be sleeping thru the night.
What are some things that could be waking him up? We dont know of any new teeth coming in too.
Should he also be eating overnight?

Oh and I also leave a sippy cup in my daughters crib with milk in it so if she does wake up in the middle of the night she has it right there most of the time the cup is still full by morning though.

Has he ever slept through the night? How many times and when is he waking?

There's some variability in when babies are neurologically ready to sleep for long uninterrupted stretches. A lot of babies do sleep through by 8 months, but some don't. Any further detail you can give about your routine, what you do when he wakes, etc. will help us try to help you.

He has only slept thru the night a handful of times. He typically gets up 2-3 times a night, sometimes more.
I think we might be overfeeding him also since we usually give him at least one 6 oz bottle overight.
OC- yes we give him bottle right before bed.

Sleeping through the night is defined as sleeping for a 5-6 hour stretch without waking. Some 8 month olds will sleep through the night while others won't. How often is your baby waking? What happens when your baby wakes up?

Some things that could be waking a baby of that age are: teething, hunger, thirst, need for closeness and comfort, approaching a developmental leap, wet diaper, food sensitivities, etc.

Giving your child access to a bottle of milk all night long isn't a very good idea.... I've seen too many children have to have teeth pulled due to "bottle rot".

Early childhood caries - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I was talking to my daughter's dentist just last week - he's seeing more and more extractions of baby teeth due to cavities. Kids (babies and toddlers) having teeth pulled while under sedation, and "spacers" put in . I've seen kids that have had to have this done, trust me - you DO NOT want to put your daughter or yourself thru that.

Yep, no bottle or cup in the bed with them. Leads to more problems later.

What is your current bedtime routine? And what is his current nap schedule?

It always helped our boys to have a very strict bedtime routine so that they know bedtime is coming.

A lot of "should"s there. I don't think that an 8 month old "should" be sleeping through the night. Some do, some don't. Either way it is perfectly normal. Same with eating overnight.
