Yes, agreed. (malamute, I tried to give you reps for this, but the Distribution of Reps Department has prohibited me from doing so until I re-distribute my wealth around more...).

Hi all - Sorry to post and run - but it seems I have birthed this thread without giving more serious considerations as to my thread parenting responsibilities. Aye!!

I appreciate the comments made so far...I do see there were a few "yes" votes - I only wish those who were supportive would have provided commentary.

It seems that most here would agree that government intrusion is a big "scary" no - but also that there are those out there that clearly should not be parents. I read many stories about teen pregnancy, child abuse, neglect, welfare abuse, broken homes, delinquency/crime - and how there is a direct correlation between the breakdown of the family and the breakdown of society as a whole...and yet the rights of folks to bring a life into this world (IMO, I can not think of any greater responsibility...) is regarded as absolutely sacred - regardless of possible (or even likely?) consequences.

Why?

For the record, I am a strong proponent of individual rights/freedoms so long as they do not infringe on the rights of others.

Would you support requiring folks to complete education, training/counseling and obtain a license before having children??
NO NO NO ! ! !

I do not see how you would come up with such a crazy idea ! ! !

If the government officials would do the job they are hired to do,
they would not have time to sticking their noise into the publics private life.

To me it is not there business, and they need to stay out of my marriage ! ! !

I knew how to make children before I came to the age of puberty.

I married a 23 year old divorced women who had two children,
a boy 7 and a girl 5 when I was 18 years old.

We had our own child together a year+ ...
later making a family of 5 people with 2 children in school,
and one in diapers when I was 20.

Today those children are 51 - 49 - and 43 and still breathing.

We ate real good food ...
( which was not all green, but it kept them healthy, and was of many different collars )
was paying for our house, and I was working.

I failed education in school with more F's than any of my other grades,
and still at the end of the 12th grade (1966 ) I graduated,
and they gave me a diploma.

Although I was not a virgin before I married . . I did not need training/counseling
from nosey people telling me how to start or raise children, or a family.

I did not need, nor did I want a village, or the government to raise my children,
of which neither one is doing a very good job at running there own operations ! ! !

Next you will be saying that a couple should only
have one child like Communist China does.
.

How does the government encourage it's citizens to bear children?

I think every parent should take an informative class on how to be a good parent. I see way too many idiot parents. They really should get their tubes tied or a vacectomy. I am not advocating youth to have sex early but I do agree with every female having free access to birth control. Heck I thought I knew everything prior to being a parent. Ha! Being a parent is a learning situation and every generation is different. Simple knowledge is key to figure out the "how to do". And refering to another item to we need to look at closer. Mandated Paternity test from the beginning. This will stop a lot of confusion. And prevent genetic diseases from their parents or family line.

Although I believe that there are some parents that shouldn't be parents it is probably like having a driver's license or buying car insurance. The good, reliable parents would follow through with training & get their license and the irresponsible people would just have kids anyway (just like many irresponsible people drive without a license and without car insurance).

It is a nice idea but I would want government to have that power.

I have said before that I think there should be at least some testing of basic psychological and mental health before allowing people to have kids. The stories you read in the news are truly terrifying - with little innocent children suffering and dying horribly in the hands of their parents. People who abuse or murder their own kids cannot be mentally healthy - they are clearly sick, and if at least some percentage of these could be prevented it would be an improvement. At that rate, and I know I'll get flack for that, but I'm also for enforced castration in some very severe cases. Like that couple that was in the news a while ago who raped and killed their 18 month old baby when visiting her after she was already taken away from them. Or the French "father" who killed his toddler by putting him in the washing machine as punishment. Or the "dads" who leave their babies to bake in hot cars while they gamble for 8 hours. I mean, seriously, some people should NOT have the right to have kids, and I don't care about all that human rights bull****.
