I kept our food expenses at 10% or less of all our expenses.

I answered in the other thread...but I'll answer here as well.

I spend $500/month to feed 2 adults, a 10 year old, a 6 year old, a lab mix, a shepherd mix, three birds and some fish. That also includes toilet paper, laundry soap, hubby's vending machine money, and dining out once a month.

I grocery shop for a month at a time. I make a much smaller trip 2 weeks later and pick up a jug of milk, two loaves of bread, and some fruit and veggies. I'd like to manage several months worth at once, but my freezer is not that big. I make my own rolls, bread sticks and tortillas, which helps limit trips to the store.

We are big eaters, dh is a soda hound and the kids (9 yo girl and 12 yo boy) and he make the snacks disappear faster than you can imagine.

I usually spend about $800 on food and sundries - including dog food (3 dogs, not little mini teacups things that eat less than a cat), dog bones/chews, cat food, litter, TP and other paper and plastic products, laundry soap, toiletries, etc.

I'm always looking for ways to cut it down, but other than doing the bulk of my shopping at Aldi, I haven't found a way to do that and still satisfy everyone. I stopped using coupons for anything other than the items I already purchase, which are few and far between - coupons are generally for name brand items and I don't buy many of those.

Well there's only two people and a dog but TG could eat for two sometimes.

I would say between the three of us its about $300 monthly but we really look for sales and deals and use coupons and buy the store brand but all in all I would say maybe $300 monthly when you add it all up. That's including bathroom stuff, cleaners, and non-food groceries. Add in one more person and I would say $400, usually I have personally noticed it's about $100 per person in the family, maybe $50 extra per person if they are teens, male and athletes or all of the above.

It has been a while since I did the math, but I think we spend about $700/month for a family of 4 + 1 cat. That includes everything we buy at Target, so things like shampoo, cleaning supplies, occasional clothing, b-day gifts, etc.

We quit drinking soda to cut down on our grocery costs. We used to spend about $3/day on soda, now we use 15 gallons of bottled water a week, which costs $4.50...so about $20/month for water vs $100/month for soda. Our spending hasn't really decreased though, we're just buying better quality food with the difference.

I thought quitting soda might help with my fibromyalgia, it really hasn't helped at all with that.
