We used to go every year the first week of December. Like you said, the park was beautifully decorated for Christmas, but the crowds weren't there yet. The "snow" on Main Street before the fireworks ***sigh***.
AMAZING time to go. Our last two trips there were the first week of December and it is truly magical. My favorite time of year to go.
Am I the only one that doubts that a ten month would be squealing "Mickey" and actually know what was going on. I guess if your ten month old did nothing but watch disney movies with mickey mouse in them for 10 hours a day then there might have been a very slim chance of him recognizing the mickey mouse character on a very basic level. Short of that ten month olds are not developed enough to speak and acknowledge their environment in any meaningful way.
But to answer your question I don't care that Disney makes me happy. Your family, your money. Do whatever you want. I just think it's ridiculous that some have the notion that every family has to go to Disney and that it's somehow this sublimely enjoyable family nirvana.
Poor Declan to have such a cynical, non-trusting and negative dad. And no, he did not watch Disney movies all day. And yes he was saying his name, just because maybe your children didn't speak or say words at such a young age does not mean others don't. My kids were also saying "mamma" and "dadda" and various other words before age one because they knew who we were, what other objects were and could acknowledge such. You know why? Because I spent time with them, read them books, played with them, explored with them. My oldest was reading books when he was 2. Going to tell me I am lying about that too? Why so negative and nasty? What is your deal anyway?
I don't care one way or another if you or anyone else takes their kids to Disney, but you have no right to bash others who enjoy the experience and know how to do it without spending a fortune.
It is amazing to see how many people think a trip to Disney is imperative. A "must" have experience. Really interesting. I just don't get it. Yes, I have been to Disney, a place that eats money. Yes, my kids went there years ago, and that was when we lived in Florida. We got resident passes. But I would not have gone into debt for six round trip plane tickets, car rental, hotel, Disney...just for the "experience".
My kids are different...they did request ski vacations...and loved it. And going on float trips, we had a great vacation one year floating the Colorado river, and riding horses in the Grand Canyon. Much more fun than Disney....those trips were more authentic to me, with real family time. We rented a houseboat at Lake Powell one year for a week, no tv, no phones, just fishing, swimming, cruising the lake...the kids planned and practiced a song for their Grandmother, sang a Capella. That trip was 100x better than Disney, INMO.
A houseboat on Lake Powell is one of the best trips I've ever taken. There is no reason a family can't do all the things mentioned in this thread and go to Disney once too. What I don't understand is people who go to the same place every year. That is boring to me. We're going to DW in 3 weeks. It may be the first, last, and only time. It doesn't take away from the fact that my kids both saw the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Monument Valley, Zion, Great Sand Dunes, Arches, Canyon Lands, and skied the Rocky Mountains by the time they were 5.
