TO ME, its offensive to take the word and use it as an insult like school kids do. It seems to imply if your calling something gay and mean that its horrible, that being gay is horrible to. Thats why I don't allow my daughter to say it.

LOL it's kid slang, which we all know should not be taken seriously, when I was in high school it was bad to be "straight" because "straight" meant you were boring, stick in the mud, uptight and nobody liked you. When I was in middle school, if you didn't like something it was "overdue" which was just the updated version of "yesterday". "Those socks she's wearing are so overdue." When I was in elementary school; if we liked something it was bad. "those are some bad shoes girlfriend."
If you try to tell kids to stop using gay to express things they don't like or agree with, they'll just replace it with another word.

Unfortunately, typical talk when I was in 5th and 6th grade , thank God that phase passed quickly. But it really didn't mean much except that your shirt was ugly or didn't match the rest of your outfit.

I agree, it wasn't used as a direct insult at the friend. It's still an implicit insult at gay people. No different than "Wow, if you keep putting on pounds you'll end up with a n***** ass." It may be a joke between friends, but it's still offensive.

I have noticed that there is a new show on MTV that is on at 10pm that is about a girl who is bisexual & doesn't know if she wants a boyfriend or a girlfriend. The overall content of things I heard in the show really surprised me; very overtly sexual with the usual reality show people doing what they do best. I guess I was just surprised b/c I know this station is geared toward young people & any more it seems their programming is pushing the envelope more & more.
During my son's nap the other afternoon, I was flipping through stations & this show was on at 3:00pm!
So, any age group could be watching this show. It seemed so mature to be on at such a time period. I think there is a time & place for everything & that this station overstepped it boundaries.
Wondering how parents feel about the content of tv shows & how they handle it? Would you want your 12 year old home from school watching this? Is so, why? If not, why not?

NO WAY I'D LET MY DAUGHTER/SON WATCH THAT KINDA SICK STUFF.
That is unnatural sick and wrong in so many levels. I hope that show stops. In what kind of times we live in? May God help us.
God bless America.

I would not be surprised if MTV was a porn channel in another 5~10 years. Almost everything on it is little more than smut now.
I guess sex sells better than music videos. TV was bad when I was a kid, but wow....today is horrible.

Why aren't you monitoring what your children watch? Why aren't you taking advantage of the parental controls that are a built-in FREE part of cable television access? The answer is, who cares what's on television? It's up to the parent to monitor what you want your kids to see. It's NOT your job to censor everything for the rest of us.
And really...bisexuality? That's pretty tame.

I don't care about bisexuality, the problem is the shows on MTV are essentially smut now.
Yes parents should control what their kids watch, but when most of the channels show either smut, shows laced with propaganda (err...advertising), or both then it gets a bit annoying.

Is it me, or does it seem like bisexuality in teenage girls has become some sort of a trend?
My 14 YO daughter is extremely outgoing and has many friends. She'll sit and tell me that this one and that one is bisexual. IDK...when I was in highschool you couldn't even mention the word without people looking at you as if you had 2 heads.

Yeah, its become increasingly popular to at least call yourself bisexual. I'm not sure to what degree they act on it though.
