I have to say, some public behaviour I see (and tolerated by passive parents) is offensive and, to say the least, a sad commentary. Don't parents teach their 5-15 year olds how to behave in public anymore?

This is a product of the parents from this day and age that feel their precious little brats can do no wrong.

People dont find brattiness "endearing". Especially if they are trying to get hired for a job. Lol.

Oh come on, this is an extension of how tolerent our society has become. We put up with just about anything today, especially from kiddies. Parents have become wimps with no authority and the kids know it. After all, if you even look at a child like you might punish them in public many people are ready to call 911 and/or CPS. People are afraid they will get accused of child abuse. On the other side there are parents that just don't care how their child acts because many of them are the role models for their kids behavior and don't see a problem with it. Kids are only following the lead of adults whether that be their parents, teachers, TV, sports figures, or any other place where they see bad adult behavior.

Perhaps...but I don't quite recall being so wimpified that a swat on the bottom causes some people to howl "child abuse". Back when I was a child (and I'm only 22), disciplining a child with a slap on the hand or a swat on the bottom was called "good parenting" and "controlling your kid".

Kudos to your parents!!
My sister and I were in Penny's with another friend that has twins. One of the twins was acting up so she gave the toddlers a little swat. Now this is through a snowsuit and a diaper.
By the time she got home the authorities were at her door investigating a child abuse report....The twins are 25 yrs old now.

Because they are lazy and do not want to deal with it, it is to hard to be consistent and absolutely no fun at all!
I have a sis like that and now wonders why her teenager steals her car, smokes pot, is lazy, does not want to work, quit school, is disrespectful to adults, does not follow the rules, when she does get a job she goes in when she wants and wonders why she is being fired! has a smart mouth and dresses like she should be at a strip club.

My parents were strict with my brother and I, and we got spanked. We had curfews. We were punished for disobedience and bad behavior in public. We're now 32 and 30, well-paid professionals, never had any trouble with the law, no substance abuse, no screwed up lives.

My aunt and uncle were the opposite with my cousins. One is 25 with a 2.5 year-old daughter...before her daughter was born she was a real wild child, drinking and doing drugs and partying constantly. Now she's settled down and teaches high school...but she was soooooooo bad for soooooooo long. My other cousin is 30 and only recently moved out of his parents' house...and dates women at least 15-20 years older than he is. He's a total weirdo.
