From time to time I have to do the "Mr. Mom" thing for a day or so and I can pull it off for short bursts. But if I had to do that day after day after day, I would want to pull my hair out. No, I would not want to be a stay-at-home dad.
With our first child, Maternity leave here is 3 months (approx) and 9 months is parental leave. Only the woman can take maternity leave. But either parent can take parental leave. At the time, my husband made less money than me and it would have made sooooo much more sense for him to stay home. He flat out refused. Our incomes were pretty low at the time. It was cheaper for either of us to stay home on EI than to pay for daycare. So I stayed home.
We do know some SAHD, but not at the time that this discussion came up. I don't think my DH was mature enough to handle it at the time.
My father took care of us most of the time when my mom was working 5-6 12 hour night shifts a week and slept during the day. He was the one who was there every night and morning, getting us ready for school, making dinner, doing hw, making sure we were showered and in bed 90% of the time.
He was by no means a SAHD though. He still worked a 40+ hour work week.
yes, they have twins too. She still pulls a lot around the house. Does all the laundry and grocery shopping. He refused to potty train, she was really frustrated but he lives a very cozy life now that the kids are in school. She works full time and still does the majority of the house work while he cares for the kids and is home with them all day. I think she's starting to put pressure on him to start working again.
Would I be one? Hell yeah I'd be one. Watch TV, cook and have free time all day while the woman brings home a ton of money. Yeah, life sounds like it'd be sooooo hard.

That's why my husband usually crashes and burns when he's home with the kids...
