What's your application in your own personal life?

Because if you bought formula today and saved $3, and you needed diapers tomorrow, the $3 you "saved" is just going to be spent on the cost of the diapers. Also most in store sales are just to entice people to buy things that are not on sale along with the things that are on sale. It's a marketing ploy.

Exactly.

That being said, you can't take it with you. The money we save, as well as the money we make, will all eventually be spent on something. So I guess in a sense it's true that what we save, we'll spend elsewhere, but so what, right? What we save today on household items, electronics, groceries, whatever, can be invested in something more lasting, like education, life experiences (family vacations spring to mind), etc.

It's all about managing our resources wisely.

This is what I was trying to get at in my post--although I never understood by "saving money" as you said the extra money will just be spent somewhere else. I don't really understand either what you mean by "application". Do you mean how I would use my knowledge to better manage my resources?

No. The money you saved by buying at the re-sell shop (or buying it on sale or using coupons) is put in the bank.

At least it can be. Funny how you think it's going to be spent someplace else. It might be but that someplace else could be 20 years down the line (college costs) or 50 years down the line (retirement). Not everyone saves a buck and uses that buck to buy something else. Some people actually do without that something else. Or wait until the next pay check to purchase it. On sale. With a coupon.

And then you never spend any money in the bank ever again?

That is just some strange economics. Our budget has two expense categories, mandatory and discretionary expenses. Then there is a category for savings. Diapers are in the former category. They get purchased regardless of other savings. The money saved is cool though. It can be funneled into the savings category. For cool thinks like education.

Neat how that works, huh?

Store sales are certainly intended to entice people into buying end cap items. We are way to savvy to fall into that trap! We took economics 101!

So you used the save money somewhere else for education. Thanks for proving my point.
