A trampoline with a net around it -- those can be great gifts for parents as they let kids get their jumping needs in. A wagon if he doesn't have one.

Like others said, that's a very good age because they're happy with anything they get and most toys marked for that age will suit them.

Books are always good. My mom would always buy me books and I love to read now.

Kids this age might also like Melissa and Doug puzzles or other wooden toys:

Lots of really nice toys at the above website.

Thank you everyone!
I looked at a pedal-powered ride on airplane that has a propeller than spins when you turn the pedals--but it's $500. Oof!
I am still looking around the toy shops in my area. Thanks also to the people who gave me links to homegrown toys

Our 2 yr old grandson is into anything motor vehicle or train related. There are loads of great toys for boys that age.

Luckily 2 yr. olds are very easy to please. If he loves planes fine a couple of well made, age appropriate toy planes for him. He might also like one of those thick cardboard toddler books on plaes.

My kid is 22 months.
His favorite toys are his mail truck, his bulldozer, his school bus, his art supplies, the dogs, his cars, his blocks, my pool table balls and stick, and the ipad.

He also LOVES to push things. So he has a riding car he pushes, he pushes his tricycle (and takes his peanut butter for a ride), he loves pushing his little golf set (the bag has wheels)...he also loves to hit the ball with the plastic clubs. And everything else.
