Here are a few things that worry me about my 9 year old boy:

He is VERY sensitive
He takes little mishaps/occurances and make them HUGE
He get very angry sometimes

He has been dx'd with ADHD..the med helps him focus in school, but what about all these other things that are going on?

Giving ADHD medication to a 9 year old child should be a crime punishable by many years in jail. ADHD is a scam invented by the pharmaceutical industry which preys and thrives on people's ignorance. That is like giving someone poison and then wondering why the person is not feeling too good. This type of ignorance makes my blood boil.

My daughter was the same way as a child (except for the anger issue) and she still is as an adult. She seems to love drama. She was so sensitive as a child if you even looked at her wrong, she would go into tears. She was like that as a baby, it was not a learned behavior but born into her for some reason.

I agree with lukeache about ADHD being a scam invented by the pharmaceutical so they can make money. They are inventing all kinds of new diseases so they can make money for everyday problems without a care as to what the the long term effects of these drugs do to people, especially children who are still developing and growing. To me, they need to find out what causes the problem and fix that, rather than just medicate to cover up the symptoms, what is accomplished with that? NOTHING! Do you ever see your child being able to get off that medicine? They are counting on them taking it for the rest of their life so they can make their $$$$$$$..

Obviously you have never met anyone who has ADHD, nor do you have any idea how the medication works.

I would take him to a psychologist for an assessment to see if what is going on (depression, anxiety, etc in children can make them act this way and immitate symptoms of ADHD). Also, has he always been like this or is it a recent change? If it's a recent change, it might be a reaction to an environmental stressor.

I recommend reading the book The Explosive Child.

To the other posters, ADHD is a genuine medical issue. Brain scans prove it. You don't have to medicate if you don't want to, but ADHD is true.

i agree that he just may be a dramatic type (maybe he will be an artist or musician in the future!). he was maybe just born that way (though i think that these things can be hereditary. is anyone else in the family this way?).
the only thing i would really worry about is the anger thing. i would look into coping methods for anger and try them and see what works for him. but the other issues that you speak of are probably nothing that can be helped. poor guy probably doesnt enjoy it either and i hope he learns somehow to relax or he will be in for a tough time throughout his life. it is very hard to be a dramatic person as i am one

So the many years of testing don't count for anything? And the people that these medications really help are what? They are big babies and it's all in their heads? Maybe we should just put these ADD/ADHD kids back into "special" classes and label them as behavior disorder kids. That worked really well before, didn't it? Those kids are all very well adjusted and living life to their highest potential, aren't they?

WAKE UP!

Some of these things can go hand in hand with the ADHD. I'm sure you are working closely with your doctor that prescribes the med. Maybe you could go for a visit and discuss the other issues with that doctor. There may be a different med that would work better for your son.
