I thought this was your stepson, your husband's biological child?

I believe her husband adopted her stepson in a previous marriage.

He is a child that my husband adopted by himself. I am technically NOT a legal parent yet. He is technically my ""step"" son but calls me mom so I call him my son

Thanks guys for all the support. My ""step"" son was discharged 5 minutes ago & doctors ruled out epilepsy as they said had that been the case, they would have seen that in his blood. However they said from the tests he did, he is likely to ""cramp"". How does a 4 year old boy ""cramp"'. Pardon my ignorance but to me cramps = menstrual cramps. Anyone ever heard of a lil BOY CRAMPING?

Meanwhile his EECG I hope I have not messed up those initials. Its a heart something something. It showed an abnormality and he has 3 little round things attached to his chest & its gonna be for 24hours & it comes with a belt & the hospital will monitor his heart!

He looks really good though, mischevious as usual!

Adopted kids are such a blessing but on the other hand, you never know what you are getting!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. After all the well wishes, I am ashamed at how mean I normally am here!

I have been feeling broody lately but this scared to adopt.

In the hospital, there was another child much younger than my son, this boy was only 2 & he also had the same problem. So yeah it happens!

!
True for biological children also. Given all the genes and the make-up of humans, it's amazing that nothing is wrong most of the time.

Glad he is doing better. Don't worry about the heart thing. My D has a minor heart issue we discovered in high school. She is quite athletic, including lots of 10K runs, a triathalon, and swimming regularly. We know it's there, but it doesn't stop her. Just needs to have it checked every few years.

Why would this make you afraid to adopt him? If anything, I see it has reinforced how much you care for him. If you mean not knowing medical history makes you afraid to adopt another child, understand that even biological parents don't have certainty that their children will be healthy. My child has a weird heart. We would have never found out if he weren't on a monitor at the hospital for other things. It hasn't impacted his life at all. Try to relax. He's coming home. He's happy. Enjoy him.

I see lots of incorrect information here about seizures, so I thought I would weigh in. Absence seizures are not going to cause a child to drop to the ground etc. Drop seizures without convulsions often are called atonic seizures. An EEG helps to determine if a child has a seizure disorder, and if the child has an abnormal EEG, then further testing/evaluation is definitely warranted. A child is usually not diagnosed with epilepsy if he/she has had only one seizure since some kids do have one and never have another one again. Still an EEG may be a good idea considering the nature of this episode.

I am guessing since you mentioned his heart that they actually did an EKG or one of the similar heart tests rather than an EEG. These are entirely different tests. If they put the probes on his chest, it was likely a heart test. If they were put on his head, it was likely a brain test.

I am absolutely baffled though by your statement saying the doctors claimed your son does not have epilepsy because his blood tests were normal?? If they said that, you need a different doctor asap. That is completely bizarre. Blood tests can rule out other problems that can cause fainting, but they certainly cannot rule out epilepsy.

Possible seizure? Never delay getting someone emergency help, if they go down like that, especially if they're unconscious.
