Comparison does not compute. A 12 year old can't give permission for medical care, or buy cigarettes or alcohol, or be elected to Congress, either.

It taught me responsibility for people and their property, as well as how to set goals for what I wanted to buy with the money. Nothing bad ever happened either.
I could have written this, and in fact, I think I did on this very thread, somewhere in the past. I knew how to take care of an infant, since I had two younger brothers and my mom taught me how to diaper a baby and how to prepare and test a bottle, etc. I am not sure the people I first babysat for actually knew I was only 12 because I was probably already taller than they were, but they were happy with me and I worked for them for a few years.
