I think you are right. Walkers are only dangerous if they are over used or misused.
Pack and plays are fine too. Just not overused. It's ridiculous to try and safeguard because of what might happen to one out of 50 babies.
With a newborn or not yet crawling child, use a bouncy seat to get a shower etc.
for a crawling child, use a pack and play. For a walking child, baby proof a room and use a gate.
If you're just doing dishes or something, get the walker or Johnny jumper. Either way, they get exercise and entertainment and you get things done.
