I was also thinking about designer cloths and quite frankly about everything on the list. If one can afford it, I simply dont see how its a waste of money to spend on them. "if one can afford it" and "like" it being the key. Now, ALL the products in the list have the very same explanation.
I wish I could say I've never regretted a purchase, but, sad to say, I've bought plenty of things I could technically afford, only to think later, "Now, why the heck did I think I needed that?" We live, we learn.

We used the wipe warmer and I thought it was a "necessity". Nothing expensive, and it worked. We have twins, so maybe we burned through them so fast, they never got a chance to dry out.

I only had one...and I don't recall the wipes every drying out either. However, as I mentioned, it was also a cheap one.....more like a heating pad with velcro to wrap around the plastic container and it didn't get them hot....just not cold.

I think all parents regret a purchase or two. Heck, I really do regret buying a crib.....but so many here think they are needed that we don't see them turning their noses up and including them on their list.

I guess every parent at some point would have to face it and have had moments of "why did I ever need that". But what I want to point out is, many things are not "needed" per se. Some of them can be wants too and there is nothing wrong in making a purchase because we wanted it.

It's all relative in the end. There's no way one can decide what the "others" would need.

I agree if a parent uses it, it is a necsarry item. I never paid a ton of money for clothing. Lucky enough to get hand me downs for the kids, designer and all! My SIL loves to shop, and kids and I love the free clothes!

This is why I hate threads like these......they only are for some to pass judgment on others because they can't imagine anyone else could have a different experience or have different needs.
As for baby products -- I think most are a waste of money --- when you consider how many possible products there are out there. Obviously there are certain products that are essential or close to being essential depending on one's life-style.

Mosquito netting for a crib --- if you go camping, it could be quite essential, if you never go outside with the baby, it could be something you'd never used. There are fold up camping high chairs -- something like that might be useful to some, never useful to others.

For people whose budgets constrain them, I think they just need to look at how they live and what works for them.

I would have thought that everyone would think a onesie is essential....but one poster here thought they were a waste....so even those aren't as universal as i thought!

My college age daughter has just got into camping (she goes to a college up in the mountains, outdoor activities are big there - heck, they go hammocking on the college green just to study!) and I never knew just how many products there were for camping....baby stuff included. Some seems useless....but like you say, some could come in very handy for the right parents.

I agree, we all need to make careful purchases from what budget we have. My friend's diaper genie would be my pink elephant...my pink elephant crib is someone else's must have. No one is wrong.

Were I to become pregnant today (not gonna happen), my list of new baby essentials would be much shorter than the one I created for my first child.

I think mine would be 'changed' more than it would be shorter (but I didn't have a huge essential list to begin with). There are some really kewl items out there that I could see fitting into our life....but like I've said....others that just don't work...but I think they would even out.

Maybe some of those new items wouldn't be as great as planned....but that is life.
