Pear sauce was our magic elixir, though, for all three kids. They sell it in baby food jars, or you could make your own with whole ripe (soft) pears and a hand mixer. I suppose a whole pear would probably work too, but my kids really liked the sauce, as toddlers.
Pear juice - diluted - is great for babies with slow bowels!

I have never seen a constipated kid in my practice in which diet wasn't the problem (except for the megacolon or other metabolic issues).

Breast fed, water only, and fresh fruits, veggies, and legumes comprising the majority of their solid diet from the time they are allowed solids...has never resulted in a stopped up kid that I have ever encountered. Add exercise to that, and very few adults, either.

Flaxseed meal mixed in to regular foods. Works well in baked goods, hamburgers, anything along those lines. It is also healthy and not addictive. We had issues with our son and this worked like a miracle.
