I can see being uncomfortable with a song like that. I would probably handle it by talking to my child about the song. "What do you think about that song? Who is that song about? I like school, I wonder why they don't like school? I wonder what kind of school they go to? Do you know anyone who doesn't like school? What could they do to help them enjoy school more? etc". That's how I generally handle it if my kids are exposed to something that I don't necessarily agree with, for instance in a book or on TV especially.

What do you think of this one that I remember singing in third grade (1966):

Ta-ra-ra-BOOM-de-ay!
We have no school today,
Our teachers passed away,
We shot them yesterday,
We threw them in the bay,
They scared the fish away,
Ta-ra-ra-BOOM-de-ay!
We have no school today!

We had no intention of shooting Mrs. Whayland, but we sang the song anyway.

Well, for the record, I am back in school... attending Lipscomb in the evenings...

School DOES suck!

You're assuming I need help. (Not very scientific to reach a conclusion without solid evidence to support it.)

I asked that question for a reason, BTW. Not to be a smart***.

Was the song taught by the teacher? Please, I was not concerned about the exposure to such songs. I was concerned that such songs come from the TEACHER!

Thank you. Finally someone can understand me. You have great advice there on how to talk to kids in such circumstances. Thanks.

It is a dumb song choice for a 6 year old to be honest. Kind of stupid, but I would just explain it is just a silly song.

It would be nice if we knew the actual song the OP is referring to.

My apologies. My line did sound offensive.
