My daughter has never been spanked, and she is the least aggressive person I know. My daughter's friend has never been spanked, and she is one of the most verbally and physically aggressive people I have ever met in my life. My nephew is spanked and he is quite aggressive, while his brother, also spanked, is not aggressive at all.

So, IMHO, no.

I have a good kid... I love my kid. I try to bring her up the right way, by not spanking her. I find that I don't have to spank her. Waving the gun around pretty much gets the job done!

Kids who know what to do to solve problems other than become aggressive will rarely be aggressive, because they have other skills to turn to. Violence is always a last resort, but some people have no other ideas. Kids who are only spanked and not taught other coping skills are the ones most likely to become aggressive as soon as they are big enough.

When America is attacked by men with no morals and no conscience, America will be defended by "rough men who have been spanked" and who know how to spank back. Then these men will go home to mothers who would never hit them.

Though Spanking makes it worse, not better:

A growing body of research has shown that spanking and other forms of physical discipline can pose serious risks to children, but many parents aren’t hearing the message.

“It’s a very controversial area even though the research is extremely telling and very clear and consistent about the negative effects on children,” says Sandra Graham-Bermann, PhD, a psychology professor and principal investigator for the Child Violence and Trauma Laboratory at the University of Michigan. “People get frustrated and hit their kids. Maybe they don’t see there are other options.”

Not setting boundaries and not teaching consequences for actions leads to failure
Learning this is far more important that what method is used
Want proof? Come to the welfare office lobby
Come to the prisons
Come to juvi hall

Maybe listening to your child instead of lashing out would help.. what a sad lot if some think hitting a child makes the world OK..

Spanking does not lead to anything. Now the belt using the belt buckle side that really hurt as a kid.

Seriously, I recall the days when the nuns would hit you with the ruler, spank you and smash you with the pointer.

One kid I recall the nun did all three and told NUN is that all you got, nun told him I am warming up. Called his Dad at work from Emergency contact list and told him to leave work now and get to school. Blue collar back then so she has to call boss, who calls Foreman who calls his supervisor that a NUN is on the phone and his kid is in trouble. Had to leave work early and get docked pay.

That kid got worked over with the belt for several hours that night. He was nice and calm and polite the rest of school year. First grade is some hard leaning in the Bronx in Catholic School.
