Hopefully, someone in this little girl's life helped her to understand that lying is not a good choice. It would be nice if the mother learned something from this and made herself as an example to her daughter in explaining the consequences of being deceitful.

It certainly would be nice if the mom learned from this but I doubt it. This is probably one thing in a list of bad moves but luckily she got caught. I also hope that this child can learn that lying and cheating is not a good choice. It's so hard though to teach that when even in school teachers and administrators are doing the same thing with test results. Of course, that's a whole other discussion topic.

I agree. That's good PR for the company -- not saying that's the only reason they did it, but it sure does earn respect.

My hubby deals with these scam types all of the time (deputy in corrections). Usually what ends up happening is that these people have already justified to themselves that what they do is on some level is acceptable. I imagine she's already justified what she's done to her daughter and convinced the child that the world is somehow doing them wrong. When caught these kinds of people tend to get even more agressive in their own defence; it usually causes so much upheaval that the victim usually backs down. I wouldn't be surprised if she tries to sue the company who has held the contest and the company offers some kind of compensation. Sad.
