DD is 5' 1" tall and all legs like a pony. She is very thin too and we are having trouble finding pants for her. Size 12 seems to fit in the waist IF there is a piece of elastic to adjust it but they are too short. 14 is long enough but way too big in waist and hips. We had good luck with Lands End for so long but now it just isn't working. I'm returning 4 pair of pants which don't fit as she has had a growth spurt.

Suggestions?

BTW her sister only 4 months older is same height but fuller with shorter legs. size 12 is just right.

Have you tried "junior" size pants? You might try a size "0" from one of the teen type stores like American Eagle, Aeropostle, etc. Junior sizes tend to be longer, but they are often available in size 0 and even 00. Depending on the pant style, they have "long" or "tall" versions. My guess is that she will find the regular length fine (or may even need the "short" version).

We were stuck in this ditch for a while also...I think we had some luck with Girls size 12 Old Navy Super Skinny Jeans for a while and I think they have the elastic.

Forever 21 has long skinny junior jeans also. And we recently hit a jackpot at H & M. By the dressing room there was a circular rack with $10 skinny jeans sizes 0 and up.

Another alternative might be to get some boot cut jeans (which IMHO tend to be longer to cover the 'boot') and have them seamed in so they are skinny. I have done that for myself although my 14 year old has deemed that to be way too uncool for her. She has finally grown a bit of a pelvis so it isn't as much of a challenge anymore!

Thanks for the suggestions. The high water is NOT the look we are going for but she doesn't care and will sometimes dash out to school before I can make her change.

We get adjustable waist pants in size 14 slim for our 12 year old who is very tall and thin. If the 14s are too long, can you hem them? We don't have to, but we could if they work in the waist.

We use Old Navy as one of the other posters said above:

That's the problem. The 14's are perfect in length but to alter the waist and hips would really distort the line of the pants. This kid eats anything and everything and all day long. (She got her own wheel of brie cheese for Christmas and it was her favorite gift!) She's just really thin.

Agree about trying junior sizes, that's what fit my long tall skinny niece at that age.

I have an older daughter who went into junior sizes in high school and I remember they accommodated girls with hips. I guess sizing can change in 15-20 years. I will certainly try the junior sizes very soon. Thank you.

My daughter has the same problem. She's 10, 5ft tall and a whopping 70lbs. I've given up and bought a million pairs of leggings (a size smaller so they don't look like sweatpants) and tunic length tops. She wears boots mostly so the shortness of the leggings doesnt matter much. We make sure the tops are long enough that they are decent.

The only other thing she will wear are these exercise pants that are made for dancers so they're slimmer cut. I haven't gotten her into a pair of jeans really ever.
