I still sometimes use their childhood nicknames such as BabyGirl, SweetPea, Little One
for DS I sometimes use Little Guy, Buddy, Pal, Mommy's Friend
Ok, please note I only use such occasionally. doesn't help that myDS is 6'4" and I'm still calling him Lilttle Fella
Well, my kids never seem to mind, but I had a friend, another mother, tell me I should make an effort to stop using such nicknames. Does it really matter? My kids say they don't mind, but maybe they do and just don't want to say so. Well........does anyone else still use their childhood names for their almost-grownup teens

On occassion we do....she doesn't mind either. Your friend needs to worry about her own kids preferences and leave yours out of it.
As long as you are not keeping them infantile or screaming 'Hey Little Guy Pooh Pooh Head' across a busy restaurant when he's out with friends.... you're fine.
Do you use these names just when nobody else is present? You might want to ask them to be totally free to tell you if it bothers them. They must be able to feel they are adults soon. Do these names prevent this? Best wishes.
When I adopted my son at 10yo, I changed his legal name from a Baby'ish name to a name that would be acceptable when he's older.
He Did not want me to change it then, but was sort of OK with it,
Now he's 18 and only goes by his Older name that I gave him, and not his old Baby'ish name. (Very similar name but Adult'ed it)
Somewhere around 12/13 he started to moved from Baby'ish Name to Adult name with his friends.
Changing a child's given and legal name (against his will no less!!) is much different then continuing to use a childhood nickname privately (or semi -privately ) past childhood.
