Personally, I'm not a fan. Men and women need to know how to interact with each other professionally in the real world. School helps teach that. Plus, from my observations as a substitute teacher, cell phones are a much bigger distraction to students than the opposite sex is.
I think there might be some benefits to occasional same-sex seminars or something like that. Sometimes I've noticed that girls feel uncomfortable expressing their opinions with boys there. I've also noticed that boys, especially in the 3rd-6th grade age level, really appreciate having male role models and appreciate male teachers that "get" them (even as being a male sub, I've experienced this.)
