Not buying into every educational and psychological fad that comes along is not ignorance - it's common sense. Once you reach a point where as many people have a "disorder" as are "normal," only a person with no critical thinking skills at all doesn't begin to wonder if perhaps the definition of "disorder" hasn't gotten a bit out of control.
No, you're wrong. Refusing to understand and accept scientific and medical facts is the height of ignorance. Along the same lines as flat earthers and moon landing deniers.
Teachers love ADD drugs. So much easier to deal with zombies in the classroom than energetic boys who don't want to sit through boring, pointless lessons. As a teacher I personally knew quite a few teachers - even some semi-good ones - who felt drugs were the answer for just about any kid who didn't robotically obey rules and directions and pass all standardized tests. They then pressure parents to get the kids on medication. It's very hard for parents to stand up to that.
I know quite a few teachers. I'm calling bull**** on this.

If a medication is turning a child into a zombie then the medication should be stopped immediately. PROPER MEDICATION does not turn a child into a zombie. Quite the opposite actually.
My parents called that stubbornness. When my teens were growing up, I called it bullheadedness, told them to cut the crap and do what they were told. You folks aren't really falling for this ODD stuff, are you? Do you think kids in developing countries get ODD and refuse to gather firewood, or help hunt for food, and their parents just get them some counseling? This is a silly first-world made-up issue.
Did you even read what ODD is all about? Of course not. Its more than stubbornness or willfulness.
A. A pattern of negativistic, hostile, and defiant behavior lasting at least 6 months, during which four (or more) of the following are present:
(1) often loses temper
(2) often argues with adults
(3) often actively defies or refuses to comply with adults' requests or rules
(4) often deliberately annoys people
(5) often blames others for his or her mistakes or misbehavior
(6) is often touchy or easily annoyed by others
(7) is often angry and resentful
(8) is often spiteful or vindictive Note: Consider a criterion met only if the behavior occurs more frequently than is typically observed in individuals of comparable age and developmental level.
B. The disturbance in behavior causes clinically significant impairment in social, academic, or occupational functioning.
C. The behaviors do not occur exclusively during the course of a Psychotic or Mood Disorder.
D. Criteria are not met for Conduct Disorder, and, if the individual is age 18 years or older, criteria are not met for Antisocial Personality Disorder.

Seriously, you don't know what you're talking about. ADHD medication is a stimulant that in patients with ADHD actually brings them down and helps them focus.
It does not make "zombies" .
If you want to know what happens to someone who doesn't have ADHD who takes the medication such as Adderall, ask the college students spend $20 a pill because it's a stimulant that makes them hyper focused and able to cram for hours.
Well, if this isn't a textbook description of almost every teen I've ever met, I don't know what is. All this over-analysis is ridiculous. They grow out of it when they are about 21.

You have never met a kid with ODD then. Most teens act nothing likethat and if you thibk they do...then yoube got bigger issues. And no.....people with ODD do not grow out of it at the magic age of 21.
Let me guess...you don't believe in any mental health issue?
Yep, I believe in a lot of mental health issues. But I also believe that people make a lot of excuses for poor behavior in kids caused by lack of proper parenting.

Well....you'd find that to be false. Poor parenting has gone on since he family unit started. It's just that these days most of us have learned that what used to be 'beat the crap out of the kid' doesn't work. Overall we try to work with those with issues and problems...not hide them away and dump them off.
Being too feelings-oriented isn't good either. Sometimes, you just need to suck it up in life. Kids don't learn that lesson anymore, which is why they can't handle even the smallest stressors and turn to drugs so readily (I know....a good portion of my friends from high school became drugs addicts).
Also, sometimes a kid needs their ass beat. Not always, but sometimes.
It's all about balance. Unfortunately, society seems to go from one extreme to the other on most things.
