I am a parent and I have always found this weird. Always. It also makes me and my husband queasy when we see things like "Mommy's Main Man", "Mommy's Hero" or "Daddy's Darling". Personally? I feel like our society has become so used to sexualization that when people express the slightest bit of a reaction to something that feels weird, we are told we are prude, don't understand, it's healthy, etc. Dates, in our culture, are romantic. That is just how it is. Applying it to spending time with children has always been strange to me.
