Ironically, my assistant named her son after herself. Her name is Charlie.

I went to college with a guy named Morgan who had a mother with the same name.

It is commonly done in sephardi jew families (sometimes female relatives rather than just the mom) but usually the masculine form of the name is used. Easy with some names like Carla, or Joan. With harder names like Sarah, a similar sounding or meaning name would be used like Saul or Aamir.

What is mom's name?

I used to know a guy whose middle name was "Anne", and it was after his mom ........the way I remember it, she'd given his older sisters that middle name, and for whatever reason, extended that to her son when he came along.

My youngest son has a name that is a variation, actually more like a shortened version of my name. Lane.

My brother gave his son my mother's maiden name as a middle name. I don't think that's uncommon though.
