A 50 year old having a baby will mean the kid will have to hope mom is still alive for their college graduation with how many health problems people have at 60-70 now.

Having a baby at 41 is quite different from having one at 50. A 50 year old may very well be deceased before the child graduates college.

There's no way I'd entertain having a baby at 40, let alone 50. I agree with the poster that said just because it's biologically possible doesn't mean that one should get pregnant that late. I thought I was a normal, healthy person. And then I hit 40 and was gifted with arthritis and now possibly MS. And no, I'm not overweight. Sometimes stuff just happens. As it is, having my second at 35 was pushing it.

I know a woman who just had her first child at 44 and her husband is 63. He has grandchildren older than his new daughter.

Not sure what link you clicked on, but the link I clicked on was all about Janet Jackson for the most part......

Your use of the word 'misconception" made me laugh!

Ridiculous. A healthy, active person is very much alive and well and active at 70 and even older (my mom is 75 and rides a bike 30-40 miles a day). On the other hand, people who don't take care of themselves may not live into their 50's. Age is not the deciding factor.

Do what works best for your own family, and don't worry so much about what works for other families.

Actually, genetics plays a large part. There are many people who DO "take care of themselves" and do not live into their 50s, let alone their 70s. Not all disease, disability or death is due to lifestyle and it is very naive and foolish to think otherwise. My sister was "as healthy as a horse" so to speak, never smoked, drank, did drugs. She also ate healthy, exercised regularly, and had three beautiful children. That didn't stop her from developing breast cancer at 45 years old, DESPITE the fact that she went for yearly mammograms and did SBE too.

The eggs come from a 20 year old, so no, no extra risk of birth defects.
