And you know she would have gone through school being called "Cake". And then that would move into the famous quote "Let them eat CAKE!" It just goes downhill from there.

Its one thing to assert your "hipness" as a parent. Its something completely different to burden your child with some ridiculous name for life. It may be cute when they're a baby, but it ain't so cute when your 30 printing up your business cards. Call me shallow, but I'm not comfortable having someone named Rainbow performing my brain surgery. I know I dodged a bullet. My mom wanted to name me Misty Dawn. She would have started me down the path to stripping. Luckily my dad won. Wendi isn't bad, but it is kinda misspelled.

And I totally know what you guys mean about dads naming girls. Hubby wanted to name our oldest Trinity after the chick in The Matrix. He lost!

A good rule of thumb to follow when naming your child...sit down and try to figure out the ugliest, most cruel thing you can make from your child's name. Then remember that kids will come up with something worse than that. If you can live with the results, then you've got a good name.

I would like the name Neveah just for the way it sounds if EVERYONE didn't name their daughter that. I went to my cousin's girlfriend's babyshower and several of the girls there were parents with newborns through 2 year olds. Out of 8 baby girls, 5 of them were either named Neveah or their middle name was Neveah. These girls didn't know each other besides through the girlfriend and it was horrible watching their faces fall to know that their perfect name was 5 other mother's perfect names. It seems to be a common trend among teen parents for some reason (these girls were all 15-18)... maybe because it's trendy among that set?

I also hate weird spellings.

I'm crazy picky about baby names.. I have to bite my lip to hold back. :P

Yes I don't particularly like the name my parents chose for me (actually I really dislike it) but it is a perfectly respectable normal name that won't look ridiculous on a resume. If my father had been in charge of naming me, well I would have had to change it b/c I seriously think it would have impeded me professionally.

I'm that horrible lady that just can't keep her mouth shut when certain people tell me their baby name plans. I had a slightly crazy acquaintance who wanted to name her future son Constantine. His dad is tall, skinny, pale, and freckled. I just couldn't let her do it to that poor boy. Had to open my mouth.
