What apps do you see your children using most often on their smartphone? How do they use a smartphone to maintain/develop/establish friendships with peers?

My seventeen-year-old just sat down on the couch next to me, and these are her favorite apps:

USAA -- banking
YNAB -- budgeting
CNN -- news
Powerschool -- keeping track of her grades
Tumblr -- entertainment and education (Studyblr)
Youtube -- entertainment and education
Netflix -- entertainment
Spotify -- music
8tracks -- music
Snapchat -- communication

In addition, she uses the phone's native email and calendar apps. We all use Google calendar to keep track of our family's comings and goings, so this makes it easy to coordinate our schedules.

For maintaining relationships with peers, she says her friends text most often, but they also like Snapchat. Although she does have an account with each, she's not a fan of Facebook or Twitter and has not installed them on her phone.
