I like that also. She used to love Claires.

I would prefer to give a gift as opposed to money or a gift card. She has a big heart and she will end up buying something for others...which is great but not why I want to give her a gift.

Her birthday is in June. Are there any newer or cool gadgets coming out? What else?

Thanks.

Don't know your budget is ...

Practical gifts don't last (gadgets, technology). Get her something she can treasure. A nice gold necklace, not too delicate so it will last for years. Perhaps add a pendant with her birthstone.

It would be a good idea to ask her parents first though.

Gift Card or cash.
Even now I dread when relatives purchase me stuff they think i'll use, while I am politely accepting the gift, it'll stay unopened in my closet until the day I move, in which it will be thrown away.

What is you budget?

A gift certificate to go to the Converse website where she can custom design her own pair of gym shoes is a good one. I think it's like $50.

I have a 12-year old girl. The gifts she liked best this past Christmas/birthday were books. She doesn't wear make-up, she doesn't take baths, and she specifically said she'd rather not get clothes as a gift.

I got her a few other things I thought she'd like: a calligraphy set (she already has, and uses, all the art supplies one could want) but she hasn't even opened it, and a board game she'd played the summer before with a friend, but she hasn't looked at it at all, and some techy robot project, as she enjoyed a robotics course in the past and was very good at it. But again, she hasn't even started it and it's been 3 months now.

It's a tough age! Books are always good for my own daughter, but you'd have to know the girl's interests/tastes and what she already has.

Her absolute favorite gift was a smart phone, but of course that's not something you can casually give w/o talking to parents, and if she's 13 she probably already has one anyway.

In a fancy fabric-lined basket (from a cheap store lol) I put bath gel, lotion, bath bomb, a manicure kit with some fancy nail art stuff, bath puff... other pampering stuff you'd find in a normal gift basket. Some fuzzy slippers and two books. I think the "fancy" presentation helps with girly girls that age.
When I was 12, I got a gift like this from my mom's friend who didn't really know me.
I LOVED IT!

I like to give kids obscure books from my childhood that I loved (I grew up overseas, so a lot of stuff I read isn't standard kid fare here).
