Doctors need to do this exam. If you don't want a female doing it for your son then get a male doctor. Same thing for girls - They get urinary tract infections, sometimes rashes, etc. etc. they get a physical exam.

Parents need to step back and let the professional do their job. No need to take this to the extreme and treat it like a creepy psyco feeling up my son. That's not what's happening here and I hope we as parents tell our kids that doctors do examine you and you may feel uncomfortable but it's a test to check to see if there's any problems. It's the reason why the mom is still in the room and if you're asked to step out, it's why a nurse is in there with the doctor during the exam. It protects their reputation.

This is a standard exam folks. Just like peeing in a cup.

The same check is done on me every year at my annual physical. When it was done by the female doctor, a nurse had to be in the room, I guess to protect them against sexual assault accusations. With the male doctor we were on our own.

Totally appropriate exam for male. Necessary to check for undescended testes, testicular masses, hernia, non-retractible foreskin. All of these are treatable conditions, some of them are really bad if not found and treated.

Frankly, if he had been seen for a physical and that had NOT been done, it would have been malpractice!

Exactly! People talk about the need for more "preventive" care and that's what this is! Hopefully the doctor does it with some sensitivity.

Actually, checking for a hernia. Part of a normal exam or sports physical for a boy that age.
