Default Female School Teachers molesting students

I want to know where this came from. We never needed to worry about this when my girls were little, but now I am grateful my son will soon be out of high school and hated to even mention this to him a few years back. What is the cause of this? Was it some movie we missed (thank you Jesus), some music or is it in the water? We just had another case here in AZ come to light. A very nice young English teacher convicted on 17 counts.

Not to be flip but sure you had to worry about it, you just didn't know... This has been going on forever just like the rash of priests it's just now with the media age and instant communication you're hearing about it more and faster. Does anyone think that all of a sudden priests stopped? No, you just don't hear about it anymore. Women are just like men in this respect, and just being a women doesn't automatically mean they are not capable of henious and antisocial acts.
People are people and whenever you have a mass of them unfortunately some will do things that are antisocial.

Exactly. This is nothing new.

I went to a church where sexual abuse, interference, can and do happen often. So, if it can happen there it can happen anywhere! It also occurs in the household amongst family members, how sad! Can't imagine one never having to worry about anyone taking advantage of their children. I know that when it comes to women we just automatically believe they are simply good care givers. We all just have to count our blessings!

People watch too much TV!

It is news because it is unusual. How many car accidents do you see on national TV? None! That is because they are quite common.

TV news goes after ratings. They want stories with babies, sex, and violence (if it bleeds, it leads!)

FYI - I and everybody else I know went all the way through high school without ever being molested by anyone. Never knew of anyone attacked by opening their front door to a stranger. No one was killed by a mass murderer. And we have all seemed to survive without ever wiping "germs" off of shopping carts!

Don't forget driving and riding in the back seat without seat belts and laying on the back deck next to the rear window.

Bottom line, as I've said before this particular thing has been going on since the pyramids and probably before that. In the U.S. it's become the cause celeb to rally around since everyone has to hate someone for something and all of the other good old standbys of yesteryear are out of bounds now.

Yes there are women teachers, men teachers, priests, doctors, nurses, cops, firemen etc etc that have and do get arrested for these type crimes all the time and it ALWAYS makes the news, lead story, front page whatever.
The news and some commentators (ever listen to Bill O'Reilly?) have everybody "hyper vigilant" and worked up into a frenzy since you never know when them rotten commies (oh wait that was last century, sorry) molesters will swoop in from their hiding place where they're always watching and either steal your child or utterly destroy them forever.
Yes there's danger out there as there's always been and no matter how many laws you pass or how much you worry and wring your hands the danger will never ever end because people exist. Now I guess you could eliminate all people and that would take care of a few issues but barring that?
Just remember, they've tried to rid the U.S. of drugs via tossing everyone in jail. How's that worked out so far?
Life is way,way too short to be constantly in fear, educate the kids, be a parent who knows where their kids are and who they're with and understand life happens there's no way to protect against everything bad that "could" happen.

I assume you are male. While males are molested, it is less common. About 1 in 4 women have been molested or raped by the time they are 25. I am 67 and girls did not report it much, but believe me it was happening. And males did not report much because they were ashamed and it was often a relative they cared about.

A lot of it at HS age is not reported because the "victim" does not feel "abused", does not process it as abuse or want to retaliate against the "abuser", and in fact rather enjoyed himself or herself.

That's just not accurate. Times change and human behavior changes with the times. There were fewer opportunities for sexual abuse before the 1960s. Human nature was better understood. Pornography hadn't yet flooded society. People still had a sense of sin and shame. With respect to men and women, boys and girls, more precautions were taken - the opposite sex wasn't thrown together in every imaginable context.

Also, in times past the overwhelming majority of children had their fathers in the home, and it's well established that children who are not living with their biological fathers are more susceptible to abuse for a variety of reasons.

As for priests, the majority of cases took place in the '60s and '70s, when sexual liberation was in the air and even the "experts" were making excuses for sexual deviancy.
