I really don't understand the f bomb, as much as I drop it myself. Whenever I say it, it upsets Mrs Crashj, so I try to avoid it.
The other use I don't know why we do it, is when something bad happens, like a car crash. I watch a lot of car wrecks on you tube (It's a training lesson) and it is often the first thing out of people's mouth. Maybe it is "Oh, a bad thing just happened, do this to me and make me feel better."

This reminds me of (I think) George Carlin saying that if you really wanted to say something bad to someone, it should probably be more along the lines of "audit you."

It depends on the age.

I know a woman who doesn't want anyone using profanity around her 21 year old son and gets offended. Her son has probably heard and used all these words himself. I don't think she is ready to accept that he is a grown person.

Right now I ignore it. We don't use them at home & I can't police what others do.

But, it will just go under words we don't say. I prefer we say silly instead of stupid, dislike instead of hate, gosh instead of God (more not to offend others) and it's going well so far.

My personal opinion on profanity is that it is vulgar and unimaginative. I usually skip over reading it and don't listed to it. It detracts from things I do want to read/hear. I was allowed to curse with my mom and dad as a child, but idk, it's just something I don't like to do. Idk...I have to think about this more.

What's weird is that my sister was allowed to too & here's it, but she refrains mostly as well as a teenager! Ha, maybe it's just a genetic aversion. My grandmother never swore, but I'm guessing marine grandfather did.

my grands used to say put your fingers in your ears and don't take them out until I move your arm . I could always tell she was annoyed with people who would swear in public . She used to say they were ignorant because they did not know any better words to use .

The world has changed. A lot.
Huh?

What does one have to do with the other? Are you saying you can't explain homosexuality with the use of profanity?

Aha, a homosexualtityaphile rises to the discusion. No, there were plenty of clinical words to use to explain same sex activities and profanity.
For us older folks, profanity, open sexuality, and homosexuality were challenging to explain to young people 40 years ago, you know, the dark days when there were some limits to those things in public? It sounds like you do not disapprove, but lets not go off topic.

Him monologue dates back 45 years or so I think. PDA by homosexuals was rare then, and illegal in many States. Times have changed a lot since then was my point. Sorry I was so subtle you missed it.
